I recently purchased tomtom live services, as well as a 1.5 year map upgrade. Price advertised on tomtom app (and website) totals around R1200. Total actually charged was over R1500. Just checking website for live services (same would apply for other service), i was able to figure out what was happening. Live services is advertised as "R499". However, on checkout, the amount billed is over 50 euros (R499 would be closer to about 42 euros using exchange rates at time - - 12:1) - the site displays that 50 Euros is equivalent to about R489 (meaning that the internal exchange rate used by tomtom is wrong - appears to be hardcoded at around 10:1)!! The bank then (correctly) converts 50 Euros to about R625.

I mailed support, & after about 5 attempts to explain the above, 0 luck (i even included screenshots). The last few times the response effectively was: "The extra cost may be charged by the bank depending on the conversion rate they have used". This clearly indicates that there is NO understanding (or attempt to understand) the issue. There is a MINOR element of bank costs, but this is a tiny fraction of the charge discrepancy, the main issue being the Euro amount submitted by tomtom
