I do not purchase many products from overseas, but in the past when I did the items arrived within 2-3 weeks. Lately, however, it takes up to 3 months. My local post office (Bloemfontein) assured me that the problem is not on their side as notifications are sent out for all packages arriving at their branch on a daily basis. So, where is the big hold up?

If this was a once-off occurrence I wouldn't mind, but this is the 4th package I'm waiting for and it has been sent to me at the beginning of December 2012 already. I've waited up to 3 months for each of the previous packages as well. The American lady who sent me this last package is quite worried and I have to keep telling her that she shouldn't worry - it is just our country's poor postal service. What an embarrassment...

And, no, I do not have a tracking number as it is too expensive to pay for insurance. That shouldn't even be an issue, though, as incoming international packages should not take up to 3 months to reach South African citizens.
