Refusal to Repair or Replace Broken TV

Our Sony Bravia television, purchased at Tafelberg, regularly freezes whilst watching programming.
Unfortunately, the problem is sporadic, and often does not recur for a week if replugged.
After sending it in to Tafelberg and receiving a report that there was no problem, we contacted them to come out and experience the occurence when it happened, solving the sporadic problem. They (rudely) absolutely refused to send someone out. Having again sent it in and received a 'no problem' report, we contacted Mr. Kellet, the manager, and asked for a guarantee that
a) they would send someone to our home if it recurred and
b) we could get a letter of confirmation that we had reported the problem repeatedly within the warranty.
His response was that the TV is too old to be replaced anyway, even though it is well within the warranty.
After numerous promises and smug revokings of those promises when actually asked for this letter, we eventually succumbed and took the television back with the intention of just purchasing a new one elsewhere.
Although they won the battle, we aim to warn consumers:
1) Their customer service is extremely disrespectful.
2) Their warranties are worthless.
