I have a porcelain business, and have been sending orders overseas for over a year. Last year, in Oct, I sent 5 orders on the same date. Of those, 3 arrived broken (1st time this had happened in a year). I wrap my product VERY carefully, I know the extremely fragile nature of porcelain, and as the maker of a delicate and expensive item, the last thing I would do is damage my own reputation and hard work by not protecting my items. They are wrapped in tissue paper, bubble wrap, and buffered by more bubble wrap. These items - I have photographs - were obviously opened, removed from the packaging and carelessly replaced, possibly broken while whoever opened them was deciding whether they were worth or not. My problem is that the PO won't insure them (overseas parcel), so what choice do I have? I can't insure them and must trust that the post office staff on duty that day are decent, honest people, because clearly management are not. Despite being a good customer, the post office I deal with has been very unhelpful. She has told me that I am wasting my time and should let it go, which I won't do. I can't reimburse my customers every time someone at the PO feels light-fingered.
