Brakes still not roadworthy after 2 repairs

Miscellaneous

On 24 Jan 2014 my vehicle failed a roadworthy test due to the rear brakes failing the minimum requirement (1.2 units). My wife took the vehicle to McCarthy Toyota Centurion to have the brakes adjusted since we usually service the vehicle there.

After 2 hrs, which included the technician misplacing a spring that is critical to the functioning of the brakes, we were assured that the necessary adjustments had been made. My wife returned to the roadworthy department only to find that the brakes still failed the test and only measured in at 0.9.

My wife returned to McCarthy on 28 Jan 2014 where she was told that the only way to be sure of passing the test is if they skim around the rear discs. They charged us R285 and spent 2 more hrs on the vehicle. My wife (who is 38 weeks pregnant) returned to the roadworthy department, only to fail the test once again, this time with a WORSE measurement of 0.7. She questioned the reliability of the equipment, but a supervisor tested the vehicle on two different machines (with the same result) and showed her how his own Toyota passed the test on the same machine.

I am disgusted at this incompetence and expect McCarthy to take responsibility.
