Refusal to refund application fees

I joined Amway 26/11/2012 but did not take up the challenge but I did not have the time and my wife was not interested as all our friends believed that this was a pyramid scheme and marketing would be impossible. The organiser Grant Holmes did not hand over the product pack, tickets or any other literature. I have tried getting my refund back on the 10 September 2013 but [Email Removed] stated that "You linked up to the team on the 10 December 2012. Unfortunately the money back guarantee is only valid for 180 days."
They never once mentioned this to me that there was a time frame involved or I would have contacted them sooner. Is this how Amway grows?
