Pringle Jacket Burned by Ironing

Miscellaneous

About 7-8 months ago, I took a Pringle jacket to this laundromat for a wash and iron. When returned, the black jacket was covered in hot iron scorch marks and ruined. When I took it back, the owner Angela was friendly, apologetic and openly confessed that whoever had ironed the jacket had been careless and negligent. She said that she had some techniques to sort this out and I agreed to let her try. Now, 8 months later, the jacket is still unusuble and I phoned to ask her for a refund. She was openly hostile and belligerent and said there are signs up saying they are not responsible for damaged goods. That was on 12 June. Since then she has not returned any calls and has not taken my calls. Further I said that this was not a case of a washload going bad or something. This was a professional person being careless with property. The reason I gave it to them was that I did not want to ruin an expensive item of clothing. She says she knows that but the signs do not hold them accountable. Am i wrong in thinking that someone providing a service has some responsibility in caring for goods where the basic service means you should not be damaging it through negligence?
