Listing on ITC after 16 years of no contact!

Edcon listed me through SSDA Attorneys after 16 years, they say there is an amount of R590 outstanding in 1997. They are unable to supply me with a detailed statement for what the alledged amount was. I spoke to 10 different people and they still only put me through to the next person, no ref nr are given or account numbers but can find details as per my id number. Is this legal??? How can they list me and not be able to proof for what. They want to charge me for phone calls I am making to them at R19 per call, even if I spend more than 30 min per call on my account to re explain the situation every time!! They want me to send them a letter requesting a stament now. Please help I don't know what to do!!
