WHO PROTECTS THE CONSUMER AGAINST COLLECTION AGENC

It is with disgust that I have to take this route hoping that somewhere out there someone will listen and come to the aid of the consumer who are endlessly being harassed by debt collecting companies who dont seem to be able to get there house in order. For the past 2-3 months I have been struggling to get a final settlement amnt out of MBD in respect of a Woolworths outstanding account and yet despite proof of payment and receipt being faxed to them they have failed to address my query. I have sent them a letter into which I copied the receipt and they took almost a month if not more to reply to my letter and yet did not take the payment of the enclosed receipt into their calculation. Now they are phoning me and insisting that I still pay an amount which has already been paid. No wonder consumers never seem to get to the final pmnt because it would seem that agencies such as MBD cannot get their recons right. All I want is just the final settlement amount and pay my final instalment. Its not that I dont want to pay them, I just dont see why I should pay an amount which I have already paid. According to them I owe them more than R600 but a payment of R562 does not reflect anywhere
