I recently took out a Medical Aid with Discovery Health for my 60 year old mum. My mum was in perfect health at the time of engaging the services of Discovery Health. We were pleased to be advised by one of Discovery Health's consultants that there was no waiting period and as of the 01st of February 2013, after the first payment was made, she could use it, however the need did not arise so she didn't. From the 19th of April she felt ill but didn't think that she needed to see a doctor until the 22nd when she was informed that she required hospitalization. We were disgusted to find out that Discovery Health refused Authorisation until further investigation. How dare they question our integrity as well as the doctor's judgement? In the meantime, my mum is at home, still awaiting authorisation before she can get treated. I would not recommend Discovery Health or any of their products to anyone. Instead of spending millions on advertising, trying to lure unsuspecting clients under the false pretense that they care, they should rather aim to provide the services as promised. I dealt with Bonita's and Liberty in the past and have never experienced such disgusting, horrible service.
