Bad service and waiting period imposed

On the 11.12.2013 I sent through an application for medical aid cover. I was told that the process takes 5 working days to complete- after several calls to Bonitas (the call centre agents are rude, do not know their product and hang up/ avoid calls) an sms was finally sent to me confirming my membership as at 01.04.2014 whereas I requested cover from 01.01.2014???

I have been on medical aid for over 10 years, proof of which was sent through. There has not been a break in medical aid cover for more than 90 consecutive days. I was previously with Bonitas and all conditions I disclosed then were disclosed now. Why the inconsistency in imposing a waiting period now when one was never imposed in 2012 when I first joined?
