I went into labour on 3rd December 2011, a Saturday morning.By Sunday I was still in labour. The pain was unbearable. An anaesthetist was called and administered an epidural. Within two weeks of giving birth I received a bill from the doctors office which I settled. I was told that the balance would be claimed from my medical aid - Discovery Health.

In the many months since then I've been informed that Discovery refused to make payment because they disputed the date of birth of my son - eventhough I had given them the date when registering him as a dependent on my medical aid. The doctor has since reported Discovery to the Council of Medical Schemes. The board ruled that Discovery was liable for the payment requested by the doctor.

I have since learned that Discovery is still refusing to adhere to the judgement and will not make payment. The doctor is now demanding that I make payment.

This is just other example of the lengths to which Discovery Health will go to hard-working people. No one tells you that 100% DHR is a rate charged only by aging doctors with sub-standard equipment and it's only when you're sick and need your medical aid the most that you learn the truth.
