Manufacturers default

I have an S3 mini on a cell c contract, the phone about a fews month old i dropped it on a stairway it fell less than 20cm. The screen has cracked. I had a screen guard prior but removed because i could use the touch screen. I believe there is a manufacturing default on the screens has many peoole have experienced the same. After driving to Samsung office in Riverhorse an inpolite front techician simply said you dropped the phone and the cost is R1100 for the repair. Only will they repair the S4 if this happens as Samsung
Failed to correct the fault on the S4 from there S3 . I totally annoyed that a company like samsung will act in such a deceptive manner ..The company is aware that there is a manufacturing fault on the screens as they prepaired to sort the S4 so why do ii have to be the brant for the S3
