I purchased a new Defy Slimline stainless steel oven on line from Appliance City on the 29/08/2013. The oven was supposed to be delivered but after a delay I arranged to fetch it from Furniture City in Arbour crossing Toti. The oven was installed and the first time it was used it short circuited the wiring in the oven causing the electricity to trip, and a burning wire smell to emanate from the oven. I called an electrician to have a look. He confirmed the oven had burnt out. I phoned the customer care call center, placed my complaint on record, received a reference number and that is where it has stopped. All calls subsequently placed are met by the same response. Your complaint has been logged and a technician from Defy will contact you to come and look. It has now been over 2 weeks and I am left without an oven and R4000 out of pocket. We have called them on a number of occasions and all we get are empty promises. I will have no option now but to register a complaint with the consumer protection council as is my right under the consumer protection act. Very dissapointed by all parties.
