Beware of Map products for other countries

BUY TOMTOM do not buy Garmin!!! They limit your options
I visited Germany Czech Republic and bought a Garmin there for the vehicle that we rented. I was going to buy the Full Map for Southern Africa with all the features of the European Map on my return to ZA. I was told that this was not possible. Although I could buy the Southern African Map addition, it would not support the Lane Assist which is so useful especially when you are on the highway. The service person informed me that I would have to buy another device with the local maps on it. How ridiculous? I eventually discussed this with a manager who informed me that this is a conscious limitation on the Garmin devices to prevent people from buying Garmin in other countries. So Garmin actually program their units not to give all features for maps other than the original map on the device. He informed me that I am not he first to complain about this, but that their hands are tied as Garmin Head Office are making these decisions. Well here is my response:

DO NOT BUY GARMIN!

TOMTOM sells their Go Live 1005 Worldwide GPS with lifetime Southern Africa Map updates. IT INCLUDES ALL MAPS FOR THE WORD WITH LANE ASSISTANCE included.
