Apple in South Africa has no repair centers

I experienced something from another world yesterday. Last week my partner was given an I pad as a prize. He is senior management at a ver big insurance house. On Saturday, we found the I pad, not really being used yet... To now start enjoying it, the screen to be cracked in the corner. I took the unit to the I store in East Gate to have it resolved. I was told that we must have dropped it?. Never the less I asked to have the screen then replaced... Bearing in mind this is South Africa and I knew nobody would take me to my word.

I was confident that I will get a solution to the effect as I use Apple product for years. The on duty manager told me that the can not replace the screen and should I choose to do so by any other vendor... The 3 day old I pad in its box will have no warranty... I asked her what to do? She then replied, that I should discard of it in the rubbish and buy a new one... Even gave me a letter to the effect...

I have a pad, about to get my I phone 5... We have a Mac book pro... With no support in South Africa... I think this is a matter that needs to be brought under the publics attention...
