The construction workers at enza construction in newtown president street johannesburg have consistently cat-called, whistled and commented on my body each time i go to work (the market photo workshop- which is opposite the construction site). i feel unsafe in this space and i've even had to change the way i dress just to avoid sexist remarks. no matter how i dress i still have these men making sexual innuendos. i am more than certain that other young women such as myself have experienced a similar situation. it is crucial that behaviour like this is corrected especially with the scourge of violence happening against women in SA. this patriarchal behaviour is unacceptable and the sooner it is dealt with the better!
