During January 2008, I paid Forest Flooring R105000 to install 128, 49m2 of Red Balau wooden decking. Bernie Whitcomb, who since left the company, installed the decking during February 2008. During August/Sept of the same year I had to pay another R12000 for reparations on planks that got loose out of the clippings and other which has swollen and pushed the adjacent ones out. They refused to do that without payment. Since then I have send numerous emails and has left messages for William the owner to come to the site and assess the state the decking is in and to address the issues. He does not bother to respond. When he had to persuade us to take his product, he drove from JHB to Centurion many times and visited us personally. The decking is now in such a bad state that we have to replace some parts, and that within 5 years. A product that was suppose to last almost a lifetime. We got 1 of the agents of the company out to assess, they quoted R3000 per m2 to restore, whereas new decking cost around R1200 per m2, I also got other decking experts to site to assess, and they were surprised to see that some Balau planks were totally rotten.
