8500A Officejet Pro expensive to run!!

In August or September 2011 we bought a HP 8500A Officejet Pro as we were told it was 50% cheaper to run than a laser, the cartridges were so affordable and you could print at 50% of the cost of running a laser! WELL WHAT A BIG FAT LIE! We don't even print 300 pages per month and we only print in black, but every month we have had to replace at least one cartridge and THEY ARE NOT CHEAP! The running costs of this machine are ridiculous! I wanted to buy a laser based on the fact that laser cartridges can print -1000 pages per month on 1 cartridge with an average price of R500 - R700 per cartridge. So by rights printing with a laser should cost us about R250 per month... well we haven't spent less than R300 and if it's the black cartridge we spend closer to R300 every month! Also when you first install the software you are asked to register it and fill in a form which you submit, but when you call in they say no that doesn't count you have to look on the machines box there is a website address you were supposed to go to and register there!?!? I mean WTH?! Why even have the stupid pop up page saying register if it isn't valid and why put the info on the box which we disposed of!
