HP refuse to repair goods damaged on receipt

Computers & Services

I purchased an HP Pavilion G6 laptop from Pinacle (via Camap Technologies) on 13 Dec 2012 as a Christmas gift.
In early January 2013, I found that one USB port was faulty & went back to Pinacle. The end result was for the laptop to be couriered to HP's repair outlet in Cape Town (EnsureIT). I subsequently received an email from them with a quote of R2623.97 to repair the laptop. After a number of emails, their response was that I must pay for the repairs since there was a second USB port that was also faulty. (The second usb port broke on first use of it).
I subsequently contacted the HP call desk to see whether they would be able to assist as the one usb port was faulty from the day I received it and there was clearly a manufacturer fault for the second usb port to break off inside on first use. Their response was that it was not their problem and that I should pay to have it fixed.
It is my opinion that this should be fixed free of charge as it is still under warranty & clearly appears to be a manufacturer fault. Even IF the 2nd faulty usb port could be attributed to my negligence (I have been in the IT industry for 30 yrs), they should repair the first usb port under warranty
