Fortuner Auto Lock Disabled

I bought my wife a brand new Fortuner for safety and reliability only to discover when driving it home that the doors did not automatically lock when we drove off. I querried this with the salesman and he said it has been disabled.
Why would this not have been highlighted to the purchaser especially knowing that this was going to be used by my wife. Why would a safety feature like this be silently taken off the market in 2012 and not reported.
South Africa is the highest highjack centre of the world and find this to be a bizarre decision to remove the auto lock function from a Family Car.
My advise, rather buy the Blazer. Toyota mislead us, or should i say, withheld information. oh and of course I will not be able to get a refund on it.
Toyota starting to go left if you ask me.
