Peugeot South Africa
Appalled at corrosion of engine block in 5 years

Cars & Transport

My dad has a second hand Peugeot vehicle (2008, 207 model) from Peugeot Umhlanga with full service history. The date of sale was 31/01/2011 and it was a cash purchase of R80000. We bought an extended mechanical warranty at around /- R3500 .
Peugeot Umhlanga received the vehicle on the 14/02/2013 to inspect the problem and root cause of why the oil and water mixed and spilled out
We were told by the engineers at Peugeot after 3 weeks that the underside of the engine block was corroded and there was no explanation as to why this would happen to a vehicle of 5 years. It was astounding news to both Peugeot and us. We were told that the best option was to purchase a new engine at /-R70000
We approached both Domonic (Service manager) and Roger Jay (the dealer principle), but both were not helpful. It has been a month and we have not been offered a courtesy car due to apparent lack of them.
After my dad's insistence, McCarthy relented and offered to pay only half the cost of new engine.
How does a mechanical fault that cannot be explained be the cost of the consumer as opposed to the cost of the supplier?? Peugeot needs to cover the remaining cost and apologize for the appalling service
