After about eight months of owning my brand new Renault Megane 1.9DCi the chrome on the gearknob has worn off. I took the car to Renault Bryanston, having had endless bad experiences with the Northcliff dealership. THREE WEEKS (!) after my visit, they call me to say they can't replace the gearknob because the warranty guys rejected the claim on the basis that "the gearknob must have been dipped in acid". Seldom have I heard such ridiculous claims (except when previously dealing with Renault's incompetent service people).

NEVER has my gearknob been dipped in acid, and the only thing that has ever touched it is MY OWN HAND. If the Chrome wears off after eight months of ownership THAT IS A MANUFACTURING FAULT. I expect Renault to revert to me and tell me that they will replace their faulty product - not to give me a story so preposterous that even a child would not believe it.

After almost seven years of owning Renault vehicles, I have yet to have a SINGLE good service experience with this incompetent and predatory company.
