Shell Ultra City n2 northbound South Africa
Filled Petrol in a Diesel Bakkie

Cars & Transport

On the 8th of February 2026, I went to the Shell Ultra N2 northbound Umgababa. I told the petrol attendant to fill R250 of diesel, and I mentioned that my tank has an airlock. She acknowledged that she knew what I was talking about. However, she was busy having a conversation with another attendant on the other side.

She started filling petrol instead of diesel. She filled about 6 liters and then stopped when she realized she was filling the incorrect fuel. She informed me that she had filled petrol instead of diesel. I was very upset and asked to speak to her manager. The manager was busy receiving fuel, and I had to wait for an hour before she attended to me.

I explained to the manager what had happened. She then told me that she would call a mechanic to drain the fuel out, but since it was a Sunday, they would take a long time to fix the problem. She then called me into the office and explained that the mechanic's assistant was at church and would only be available at 1 PM. The mechanic managed to come in at around 11:30, and he started to drain the fuel out. The total amount of fuel that was drained was about 50 liters.

The manager refused to fill the same amount of diesel that I had in my bakkie. She told me that the petrol attendant didn't have money to pay for the fuel and gave a whole lot of excuses. In any case, they agreed to fill 25 liters. So, the manager went to the filling station, changed the Rands on the machine to 25, and filled just 1 liter of fuel into my bakkie. She said she was done filling up. Luckily, I saw what she did and told her that R25 does not equate to 25 liters, as the pump showed only 1 liter was filled. She then told me to sit in my vehicle, claiming she knew what she was doing.

I insisted that I wanted to see what she was doing. She then filled the 25 liters. I wasn't given the 50 liters of fuel that was originally in my vehicle. I was robbed. The mistake wasn't mine, and I further learned from the mechanic that this was a recurring issue with this petrol attendant.
