Leading Company DHL Incompetence is unacceptable

I had sent a parcel to Brazil at a cost of R2600 "Waybill number 1147207806" when it arrived in Brazil it was refused clearance due to a ID tax number not supplied on the way bill, we contacted DHL and they replied via Email saying the parcel had to be returned to have the ID tax number done correctly before leaving South Africa. I sent this parcel before the 4th of December, on the 17th of December they sent it back to South Africa and is now in Australia and is waiting for a customs release, it is now the 29th of December!! Why wasn't an ID tax number put on the waybill by a DHL employee? Why was the parcel sent via Australia, Hong Kong and the USA adding more risk of the parcel being damaged or misplaced? I am wanting a full refund of the amount I paid to DHL who accepted payment to deliver my parcel to the supplied address and date which they could not forfill, in return for my loss of time I expect DHL as a leading company to deliver my parcel to the supplied address at DHL's cost and as business etiquette should be, I don't find that it should be a problem. unfortunately my families birthday, Christmas presents and surprise can not be replaced, in turn have been involved.
