Avis
Over charge on Van Rental

Cars & Transport

On Saturday 12 Oct we rented a bakkie from Avis Van Rental near the Cape Town Int. Airport. The service was brilliant and it was explained to us that we have the bakkie for 24 hours, from 10:00 to 10:00 on Sunday 13 Oct. The rate was R480 plus R43.80 charge for the windscreen. We had 200km for free. We were also advised that on Sunday we have to drop the car at the airport branch and before that we had to fill the bakkie with Diesel.
We drove about 170km over the weekend (we took pictures of the kms when we collected the bakkie and once we dropped the bakkie off). On Sunday we put Diesel in of R250 which was more than what we expected, the bakkie was not properly filled before.

Our account was R523.80.Great was my surprise when the charge came through my credit card and it was R813.50?! When i phoned to enquire the answer was: "Oh yes, but it was after hours drop off and a R290 charge was loaded for that! This was NEVER disclosed to us, after numerous questions on what the cost will be. The thing is, had we known about the R290 charge, i would have taken the bakkie a day longer, paid the money for the extra day, got a lot more things done and returned it on the Monday!
