Renault South Africa
Bad service

Cars & Transport

The initial call to the service centre was to book the car for minor service. However, we were advised that given our budget constraints and the car's mileage is over 90000km we should rather replace the cambelt which is usually replaced every 4yrs/90000km. We took the advise and the car was brought in on 26 Oct (7:30am). We collected the car at 12:18pm on the same day. 50km later at around 4pm the car started cutting, and a burning smell from the aircon vents. A few minutes later the engine ceased and we were forced to push the car from traffic onto the side of the road. At 6pm we called customer care informing then of the incident and was told to call the service centre to fetch the car on Monday as the car cannot be towed if it is out of warranty. the car was towed from mapobane to the centre. we were informed that the new cambelt had caused damaged to crank pulley (R2, 194.73) and v belt (R147.81). No one informed us that the replacing a part would result in other parts needing to be replaced!!! Now i must fork out R2342 new parts R500 labour R1710 towing. why must a customer pay damage caused by gross negligence (see clause 2.8 of T's & C's). i am not liable for any of this!
