Volvo
Expensive and ineffective repairs

Cars & Transport

I have owned a Volvo motor vehicle since 2006. I have enjoyed many miles of trouble free motoring. In the past few months, however, I have experienced some real trouble. I own a 2001 XC70, which has been my wife`s car for the last 7 years. In April just after the 170, 000 service the gearbox failed and had to be replaced by Easterncape Volvo. Given the age of the vehicle it could be expected. This was R34, 000 to repair. The job was duly done and the car was in perfect working condition upon delivery. I, now live in Brazil, but decided to keep the car the market value is really low and it would be nice to use during our holidays in South Africa. The car has not been used much since our departure on 1 April 2013. My father, whom is keeping the car in his garage, uses the car occasionally, just to keep it running. Sadly the car broke down again. The car was smoking excessively and it was returned to Volvo. On a first diagnosis, the turbo has accumulated sludge and has subsequently failed. Again Volvo eastern cape has quoted /- 30, 000 to repair.
Why after a service and a major repair and very little mileage (less than 1, 000km) this problem was not detected.
