Why pay more for less?

I visited the KFC outlet in Orange Grove (JHB) today the 30/3/2013 between 11.30am and 12.30pm. I was for an upsize (which I understand to be R5 extra) and I was then asked if I wanted the cup or the buddy. Naturally one would think it is not at any cost extra. After paying and noticing a discrepancy of R14 for the 2 meal upgrades. Only then was I informed to swop from my upgraded cup, I then need to pay an additional R7 to get a Buddy. I was then told because I swiped my card i cannot be refunded (I was eventually refunded R14 in Cash). That is however not the point; In what world does one expect a client to pay R7.00 to swap a 650ml drink for a 500ml drink. I understand if you say, Fine a direct swap at no cost. But to expect clients to pay more to get less of the same product.
So what you actually saying is to upgrade your drink to 650ml you pay R5 and then to downgrade to 500ml you must another R7... Totally Ridiculous.
If that is how KFC intends to rip off unsuspecting clients to make a quick buck, then clearly I don't want to be client of such an institution.
