Ocean Basket
Failing on their customer promises

Cafes, Bars, Restaurants

I was invited by PR Shed Marketing to an OB recent media event in Melville but regrettably could not attend as I was shooting a magazine cover. (I'm a lifestyle editor at magazine.) I thought I should check out what Ocean Basket has to offer in terms of new items on the menu so made my way on Monday at 07:23 to Sandton City where I was served at table 14 by by Patrick Kawonga (staff no 33345). Patrick was amiable. I opted for the Seared Salmon Avo Salad.

I don't typically read the menu in detail but as I missed the publicity event I wanted to ascertain if there was any change of direction on the part of the OB brand. I read the bit on the sushi menu about Ocean Basket aiming to please customers and keeping in mind the healthy South African appetite. I thought this a bold statement but had no doubt OB would not disappoint. From the looks of food photography on the menu this seemed to be the case. Great was my disappointment. It literally was 6 - 8 slivers of salmon so thin, it was by no means sashimi more like carpaccio. A second plate didn't fare better. A waste of R140 and certainly no value-for-money. Pls change your menu copy and food image to reflect reality.
