ATM refund - worst service eve

We've been customers of Standard bank for the past 27 years but are seriously considering moving our account to another bank for a number of reasons. On Friday the 5th of April, my husband visited the Waterfront branch in Bloemfontein to collect his cheque book, he then went to the ATM to withdraw R500; while he was busy with the transaction, the power went down and his card got stuck in the ATM. He went inside the bank and was informed that he has to apply for a new card at a cost of R75; he will also have to wait for an "audit" to be conducted before the money can be refunded into his account. He had spent a total time of 2 hours inside the bank just to collect his cheque book and new ATM card. It is now 10 days later and we are still waiting for the money to be refunded. My husband raised the following concern, what if the person withdrawing the money was poor and the R500 was the only money he had left in his account?? How can Standard bank expect him to wait for his money if the bank was at fault??
