Settlement amount not the settlement amount???

I received a sms in Jan, stipulating that my settlement amount on my account is R5403.01, I went to Bears and paid the full amount, I contacted African Bank to make sure that all is in order and I am now paid in full, they informed me that I still owe them -R4000.00. I explained the sms to them and they said I must go to Bears and show them the sms and if the sms checks out they will update my account. I did so and they informed me that someone will contact me within a week. The next phone call I received was to inform me that I still owe them money, and the agent did not know anything about my situation, I again explained the whole story and they said someone will contact me back. No one did, the next phone call was the same, "I referred it to my supervisor, someone will contact you back" but no one ever does. I am now sick and tired of contacting African Bank and trying to get this sorted. No one can even give me a manager's number so I can try and sort it out with someone that actually has the authority to do something. How can you tell someone it's a settlement figure and then turn around and tell them they owe you more money!!!??? This is just ridiculous!!!
