Better offering not applied to existing customers

I've just been to the Absa bank to query my steep monthly charges. I was told my account was old, and it has a new name with better rates. From Flexi-Select to Value Bundles. The name means nothing to a customer. I was never notified when this was implemented in November 2012. Which existing customer would oppose reduced bank charges? Why does one need to go into a branch, with plans to switch banks, to be told of the better offering? I would like a back payment of the additional R200 I have been charged monthly, since this cheque account offering has been updated.
