Debit order after cancellation

On the 10th of January 2013, we cancelled our insurance with Auto & general as we found another company with a better premium. With previous insurance companies that we have used, if cancellation was done in the middle of a month, a pro-rata amount was credited back to us as we didn't utilize the full month that we paid for. Auto & general refuses to help us with the credit due back to us. Even after a cancellation was sent on the 10th of January 2013 and responded to by Auto & general, they still debited our account on the 31st of January for R622.10. We phoned 0860 102 784 now and we were told that the payment was for previous months insurance but we were told prior to this incident, as by all insurance companies, that when a debit order is deducted, you pay in advance for the upcoming month. We have been clients for almost three years with no problems and no claims, but I will NEVER suggest Auto & general to anyone again!!
