First National Bank
Trying to open an account

Business & Finance

With all the ads about switching to FNB and FNB winning the 'most innovative bank in the world' etc I attempted to open an account. First attempts were made online but the online forms ran into a loop taking me back to a previous point in the application, asking me for details such as card number etc (which I obviously didn't have yet). This led me to the contact centre. The calls were recorded so it would be interesting to find out exactly how many people I spoke to but I'd estimate around 5 or 7 until someone who sounded like they knew what I was talking about when mentioning an 'online account application', not 'application for online banking' - there's a difference! Once all details were provided and about 45 min on the phone I was told that my card would be ready in 2 to 5 days at my local branch. Notification took in excess of 2 weeks. Once received, I visited the branch to collect my card, arriving at 11:25, I was in the bank until 12:40. The annoying thing here is the ads and the perceived ease with which one can apply for an account where in reality this was far from it.Com'on FNB, live up to your promises. Put some of that "innovation" into 'new account applications'.
