IS THIS LEGAL?? "Together" se voet

I was informed by Absa via sms to visit my branch for FICA - not a very reliable way for such an important process!! It was during the time that my mom had bad car accident and I did not respond soon enough for the bank - so they cancelled my credit cards. Is this legal? Why did I not receive written notice in advance - i have been a loyal customer for more than 30 YEARS!! And my credit cards are still cancelled one week after the FICA was done! This is extremely poor service and disrespectful attitude from my bank with the slogan "together" = what together??
