Account handed over for ridiculous amount

Hi

As far as i am aware i only owe telkom about R6500, when i called the call centre they advise i owe over R16 000. I have cancelled my service with telkom and they accepted this on the voice recording how can they now cliam i owe R16 000 for a debt woth R6500
