Absa
Absa: Making Your Life More Difficult

Business & Finance

Just tried to open a bank account at Absa (crazy, I know, but I have an access bond there and apparently it would be the easiest way to transact). I'm told it's a quick and easy process, as long as I have the correct documentation (which I did) I would be transacting the same day. So far, so good. This'll be easy, I thought. That is until we came to the electronic thumbprint.

"Oh, I'm sorry sir, that doesn't seem to be working, could you just try it again? "

After the 5th attempt, we established that no, it wasn't working, and no, I don't exist on the system. The quick and easy fix? I must just pop down to Home Affairs to update my details on their system then Absa can open an account for me. That's right, you must first go to HOME AFFAIRS before you can open an Absa bank account. How's that for user friendly?

Clearly, Absa are performing so strongly that they don't need to concern themselves with piffling little things such as customer convenience or satisfaction. Thankfully I moved all my accounts from Absa to FNB six years ago. I would urge everyone to do the same.
