Do Banks really help you in need?

As I am to be married soon, I recently went to apply for a loan to cover the wedding, other costs, as well as to settle my vehicle account, as well as other small debts.
I was told that because my vehicle is in a recovery status the system cannot allow for the application. I then contacted Bankfin to try and get the account out of recovery status, and was then told that the only way to do this is to settle the vehicle amount. (Really??) How am I to do this?

All I want to know is what other options are there, and how do I go about it?
I have been with Absa for just over 10 years, and this situation is really disheartening that a "leading" financial institution cannot truly help their clients.
