NO DEBIT ORDER SET UP!

A consultant called me to take up a credit card, which I did. I was asked how I will be paying this and I said Debit order, he asked me from which account which I advised will be from my cheque account which I have with standard bank. I also gave the date which I wanted my account debited. Today I received a text message stating that my account is in arrears. Excuse me? Why wasn't my account debited. I called the number on the text and was told by the agent that I should've called and set up a debit order if that was what I wanted? Why wasn't I told this? i am absolutely angry. How is this my fault when I was told that my account will be debited on the 26th of every month. Standard bank is pathetic...
