First National Bank
Money transfered into incorrect account

Business & Finance

My mother (aged 75) gave the details of an account held at ABSA and the instruction to make a payment to the given account this morning at the FNB Branch at Northcliff Centre. The teller did not verify the account detail and paid the amount to the only beneficiary that was loaded on her profile, therefore made a payment to the wrong ABSA customer. When she received the Proof of Payment she noticed that the payment was done to the wrong account. She immediately told the teller about the mistake that was made. After numerous discussions with the staff at Northcliff Centre Branch, we still do not know what action is needed in order to reverse the transaction. Ernest is talking about a Recall that need to take place but that can only be done once the money is in the ABSA account. What if the ABSA beneficiary withdraws the money in the meantime and it cannot be reversed? This is a mistake made by the branch so surely they must take responsibility for the mistake and re-fund my mother? This is a large sum of money that is urgently needed and we have no idea how long this is going to take? - Due to space I can not even go into detail regarding the state my mom was in and that NO apology w
