FNB loses a cheque and then tells me to go find it

Business & Finance

I phoned telephone banking this morning to find out why an amount had been reversed off my account. I was told that the cheque deposited Monday for me had been lost and then I was instructed to phone the bank myself and try to figure out where it could possibly be. It was deposited in Durbanville, but I was told, categorically, that the system said Bloemfontein and the I must phone a Bloem number. I was astounded that this should become my problem - esp when I knew Bloemfontein would be a dead-end. Luckily my client will deposit the cheque again soon, but I have now lost 5 days and will have to wait another 7 working days and FNB don't care. My client says that FNB is the ONLY bank that does not accept a clearance letter - there is no reason for it to take 7 working days and my bank manager says he is no longer allowed to clear cheques. My client is a huge company.
