Virgin Insurance
Virgin Insurance, Insurance Like It Shouldn't be

Business & Finance

On the 12th of August 2013 at 12:15 in the afternoon my car was parked and a truck drove past, the truck door was not secured properly, swung open and damaged the back of my car.

The Trucking Company's insurance broker said if I want my car fixed immediately I must claim through my insurance provider who will then claim from them. In which case my car will be fixed immediately and my insurance company will make a full recovery.

The problem now being that Louis Meyer, a senior claims manager at Virgin Money, has explained to me that even if Virigin Insurance make a full recovery of all costs that they will still increase my premium by 10% because I claimed. The argument being that because I claimed it increases my risk factor.

Why is this the case when Virgin Insurance experiences no costs and myself as a client have not become riskier? How can parking my car and being hit by a truck make me a riskier client?

If any lawyers or insurance brokers are reading this im looking for another insurance provider and would like to take this matter up with the Insurance Ombudsman and the Consumer Protection Commission.
