I was a victim of ATM on 13/07/2013. I used the Std Bank ATM at Midway Mews in Midrand. My card was inserted into their machine and i entered my PIN. It said invalid PIN. I re-entered my PIN and the same thing happened. I then cancelled the transaction but my debit card was retained by the atm machine. A few minutes later i receive an sms that R3000 was withdrawn from my account at another ATM. I immediately blocked my card and phoned their Risk & Dept. ONE WEEK later, i receive a call to say my card was so i am liable for the loss. I used THIER atm machine which, was obviously tampered with and that is my fault? One of the so called "managers" still proceeded to tell me exactly how this atm works and yet i am liable? If i was compromised, i was compromised using STANDARD BANK'S ATM!! I didnt lose my bag or wallet so Standard Bank is liable and should refund me my full R3000!!! I will be taking this to several newspapers, the ombudsman and the Banking Association of South Africa. I dont want a 50% refund because i didnt use 50% of YOUR atm machine. I want a full refund and if that cant be given to me then it means YOU my money!
