Blacklisted due to Virgin Active's mistakes

I had a contract with Virgin Active last year. Towards the end of the contract, I became too busy to attend gym and decided to cancel my contract. I paid the necessary fees for cancellation and was assured that everything had been sorted out. Two months following my cancellation, I received warnings via email and sms that I had not settled my account. I also was charged by the bank for Virgin Active trying to debit my account when there was no money in it. Every time a Virgin Active attempted a debit (EVEN THOUGH I HAD ALREADY CANCELLED MY CONTRACT), the debit would fail and I was charged by the bank for that. I went in to the branch and spoke to a person in the accounts department. This person assured me that the problem was finally sorted and I would have no more issues. I recently tried to apply for a student loan for university studies and was REJECTED due to being blacklisted. The only reason I would be blacklisted is due to Virgin Active trying to debit my account and not being able to access any funds. I have been rejected a student loan because of Virgin Active's mistakes. Very unfair.
