Shape for Women in Barberton forces me to pay

I have signed and pay for a gym membership with Shape for Women Barberton 13 months ago, they made me to sign the contract there at the gym without explaining to me the terms and conditions. I have not went there since that become of my health condition and the distance. they have been deducting my money for nothing and i decided to stop the debit because i felt that it is not fair for me to pay for something that i did not use, i never touched anyof their equipments not even testing them. Now the gym owner Ms. Phindi Mhlongo has phoned to tell me that i have been handed over to their lawyers because i didnt honour the contarct and i must pay R2500 for cancellation. Is it fair for me to pay for something that i never used from the beggining? i paid regitration fee that never assiste me and now i have to pay for not being assisted. how could you forward me to your lawyers when i dont owe you.
please i need clarity because i see as if Shape for Women Barberton is a ripe off for uneducated people like me, nothing partaing the contract was explained to from from the begining but now im told to read the fine print on the contract.
