Settling amounts changed after we paid

After an informal email to Planet Fitness informing them that a member was accepted at a Univ. in a town without a Planet gym they provided a settlement amount to close the contract. We reverted and said it is too much, the full-time student can not afford the amount provided.
A few weeks later we sent Planet a formal letter to cancel the contract. Thabo at the Call Centre provided a much lower amount as full settlement. The student accepted the amount and we paid it in full.
The next day Thabo went back on his word and demanded the amount he previously quoted!?
This is extremely unprofessional, how can Planet Fitness' accounts department be so corrupt? Thabo now refuse to cancel the contract until we pay an additional amount.
