Virgin Active, via their call centre and my local branch of which I've been a member for 8 years, refuse to freeze my membership (on valid medical grounds) because I joined at a discounted rate through a rewards partnership - Discovery Vitality.
I am unhappy about it and posted the issue on their Facebook profile. They responded quickly promising to sort it out for me one way or another. Apparently, they chose the "other" because a week later, I've heard not a word from them and the post has been deleted.
So first, they promise to fix it and then they pretend I don't exist - rubbing salt in the wound - but they're happy to continue taking my money every month! So I've chosen not to support them any longer. When I recover from my medical condition, I'll join a different gym that treats its members as people and not for their contribution to their bottom line.
