I signed a 12 month contract in November 2011 with Virgin Active Menlyn. At first I refused to give my cell number, and told the sales person the reason. Virgin active will send me spam. I gave them my secondary number after a long debate to the point of I cannot become a member if I do not supply my number to allow them to keep in contact.

At 11 months, I gave notice regarding cancelling my contract in writing. I explicitly wrote that my number must be removed from their database and that I DO NOT WANT TO BE CONTACTED again.

About a month ago, a young man contacted me again, with the word, "you were a member of our club before...". After I instructed him to stop calling me and remove me from their database immediately, he promised that Virgin Active will not contact me again.

This morning another young man contacted me again, also with the words of "you were a member before".

This is unacceptable. According to the Electronic Communication Act I have the right to opt out, and they must respect my decision and stop harassing me.

They bully you to get your cell number, then you cannot get rid of them for life.
