Makro
Bad advertising practice!

Shops, Products, Services

Makro have recently started advertising "1 day specials". On Sunday 13 February they advertised a special on a Ryobi drill set. The Germiston stiore opened at 0900 and at 0915 had apparently sold out the 44 units allocated to them. I accept that the ad stated that limited stocks (600) would be available nationally. However, I, and at least 5 other potential buyers there at the same time, were all extremely irritated at being told Makro had exhauisted their stock within 15 minutes. Rather than doing the other shopping I had planned to do at Makro, I left immediately.
The incident generated tremendous annoyance. I regard this type of advertising as being crude, short-sited and misleading. Goods should ONLY be advertised if stock exists to satisfy a reasonable expectation of demand. The tactic employed by Makro in this instance resulted in alienating customers rather than stimulating visiting Makro to do other shopping!
